Yes those two are generally the safest ways. However, there’s nothing wrong with thawing at room temperature as soon as you use it right away when it’s thawed. It doesn’t go bad instantly…

Either thaw overnight in the refrigerator or submerge in cold water (filets in a ziplock bag) for 20 minutes or so. Never at room temp.

I never leave reviews. But I was so thrilled with how juicy and delicious the cod turned out, I couldn’t keep it to myself. This is by far the best way to get delicious fish that is not overcooked. I have a convection oven, so I opted for the lower end of the scale and it was perfect. Thank you so much!
